Background

I studied chemistry at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic, followed by a Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry. My work focused on mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) of lipid double-bond isomers using derivatization techniques, particularly off-line ozonization, for structural differentiation. During my studies, I completed an internship at the Institute of Hygiene in Münster, Germany, where I combined this ozonization approach with post-ionization MALDI-2 mass spectrometry. I also spent a year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA, working in Dr. Powers' group on meta-analysis of cancer biomarkers in human serum and lipid analysis in yeast cells.

Research

Until now, my research has primarily focused on lipidomics and mass spectrometry imaging, with a particular emphasis on resolving lipid double-bond isomers in both animal and human tissue samples.

Within the NUCLEAR DC3 project, we aim to develop mass spectrometry imaging methods that allow tracking acyl-CoAs and their associated metabolites at subcellular resolution. The project will also involve integrating MSI with fluorescence microscopy in multimodal imaging approaches to confirm and assign metabolite location. In addition, stable isotope labeling of essential nutrients in cell culture (SILEC) will be applied to study metabolic turnover within cell nuclei.
